Figurative ceramics by Ribble Valley artist Jenny Eaton, winner of the 2012 Craft Open Ribble Valley Prize.
"I am a ceramic artist living and working in the Ribble Valley for the last 25 years. I make figurative, sculptural work. Initially, inspiration derived solely from awareness of the effects of weathering and erosion on the countryside. Through personal experience I realized a parallel existed between the effects of time on the environment and the relationship of a couple on their journey through life. The impact of emotional experience and relentless ageing of the body all make their mark on the human form just as the weather on the landscape. Through my work I translate these observations to the figures through texture, nuance and body language. This new collection is titled ' Soul Mates'.
Making methods: piecing the clay by hand, exploiting its nature to realize the cracked, fragmented, semi androgynous forms. Finished using oxides and slips then fired to 1240 degrees centigrade in an electric kiln."
